2019 Tanzania Trip
Our 2019 Hopes
Hello Everyone,
For 13 YEARS straight, we have been visiting Tanzania. Now we are in our seventh decade and should be spilling over with wisdom. Yikes! Anne and I leave for Karatu, Tanzania, Sept 22, to continue the work of the African Children’s Book Box Society. I was looking in a thesaurus for an inspirational word for ‘rewarding’ (because it TRULY is). Right below rewarding was “rhapsodical”- ecstatic , rambling, like a rhapsody. Or maybe I just found a word for the ongoing addiction we have…. visiting Tanzanians, small and tall, has become part of our being! This Thursday, before we leave, is our AGM. We will meet with all the dedicated directors to get priorities established for the new fiscal year.
Experience tells us everything will most likely be turned upside down, no matter how carefully we plan and yet bringing the collected wisdom of the board to bare is SO helpful when faced with the devastating effects of deep poverty. AND…likely we will be wishing for a gleaming treasure chest to fulfill need.
2019 Hopes:
-
Continue to develop the much needed Flame Tree Technical school·
-
Continue to provide African stories and/or subjects by African authors (plus the odd Canadian)in Swahili and English·
-
Continue to provide “Meal in a Mug” for children eating just once a day·
-
Continue to enhance health care where needed·
-
Continue to help providing water where possible
Those of you who know children who might enjoy the story of a resilient little orphan elephant, please think of purchasing ‘Paseka – A Little Elephant Brave’. A share from all sales goes to the African Children’s Book Box Society. There is a universal magic in stories to grow wings and settle in fresh hearts.

All the VERY best,
